Chelsea Girls Win Year End in Livonia

Chelsea wins 2010 Girls Year End Hockey Tournament in Livonia

The tournament started on Friday March 12th.  They played the Lansing Capitals 
in their first game and although Chelsea Lightening led most of the game, the 
Capitals managed to tie the game up with under a minute to play in the 3rd 
period. 

On Saturday morning they faced off against The Wildflowers (who play at Detroit 
Skate Club in Bloomfield Hills).  Even though they out-shot the Wildflowers they 
lost the game 0-3.  Later that afternoon they came away with their first victory 
when they played the Livonia Blues.  

On Sunday morning they met up with the Farmington Hills Suburban Ice team for 
the semi-finals.  The game didn't start off well for Chelsea when Suburban 
scored 2 goals close together in the first period.  They soon retaliated and 
were able to tie the game up 2-2.  The Suburban Ice scored again to take the 
lead 2-3.  With just over 2 minutes to play in the 3rd period Chelsea managed to 
score and tie the game up.  At the end of regulation the game ended in a score 
of 3-3, which sent them into sudden death overtime.  Chelsea was able to score 
first giving them an exciting victory and sending them to the championship game.  


For the Championship game they had to play the only team that they had lost to 
during the tournament, the Wildflowers.  They were able to overcome the odds and 
win the game 5-1.   The coaches of the team all deserve great credit, some of 
these girls had never skated before let alone played hockey and now they are 
Champions!  Congratulations Coach Neal, Coach Dave (both of them), Coach Rick, 
Coach Bob and all the other coach supporters!
